Big Elk Creek Covered Bridge

Circa 1860. Located in beautiful Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area. This historic wood bridge spans the Big Elk Creek that winds its way through 5600 acres of preserved land. Located in FHNRMA.

Conowingo Dam and
Hydroelectric Plant

This power generation station was built in 1928, and stretches across scenic Susquehanna River. It generates 512,000 kilowatts of electricity, and is one of the largest plants of its kind in the US. Conowingo Dam conducts shad restoration programs. Tours by appointment.

Day Basket Factory

An antique market surrounds a small factory and shop where oak baskets are still hand crafted as they were over 100 years ago. Using techniques passed down through the generations, an array of baskets are produced that are worth their "Lifetime Guarantee"!

Gilpin's Falls Covered Bridge
Rt. 272, north of I-95

Drive past this 1860 covered bridge located right off 272 north of I-95. It once spanned a stream to allow horses, wagons and their riders to reach a mill located on the other side.

Mount Harmon Plantation

Circa 1730. This colonial plantation is located on a magnificent scenic knoll outside Earleville overlooking creeks and inlets of the Sassafras River. Tours of the furnished manor house, tobacco prize house, and detached plantation kitchen are available. Open May-Sept.

Plumpton Park Zoo

A fascinating country zoo in a lovely peaceful setting. The zoo has over 250 animals including a beautiful Siberian tiger, zebras, giraffes, monkey, cougar, camels, deer, and more. A picnic area and playground are on site.

Rodgers Tavern

A restored tavern from 1740, used today for meetings, weddings, events, tours, museum and a gift shop. Located on the banks of the Susquehanna River, it was a prosperous ferryboat landing in colonial years. The tavern was frequented by famous folks like Washington, Lafayette, Rochambeau, and Madison.

Turkey Point Lighthouse

A one-mile stretch of wooded trail at Elk Neck State Park leads you to Turkey Point Lighthouse. On a scenic bluff 100 feet above the waves, you can stand next to the lighthouse and view five rivers flowing together to form the Chesapeake Bay.
